Choosing the Right Jewelry Box

Choosing the right jewelry box can be a difficult thing to do. More than just a box, a jewelry box is a work of art designed to protect, organize, and display your collection. Jewelry boxes are made of wood, leather, metal, glass, or various types of fabric. A jewelry box signifies wealth, heritage, and sophistication, and can accentuate the beauty, grace and elegance of a simple piece of jewelry.

If you have a small collection of jewelry pieces a fabric jewelry box would be an excellent choice. Less expensive than wooden boxes and usually smaller, they are frequently lined with satin and velvet. They come in a wide range of colors and often have decorative beadwork. They are popular gifts for bridesmaids and younger women.

Wooden Boxes are often the largest. They are frequently constructed of oak, mahogany, teak or burl wood with several drawers and possibly one or two cabinets with glass or wood doors. Women’s jewelry boxes range from small chests that can be tucked away in a drawer to large standing armoires on legs.

Most boxes fall in the middle range. Some are sleek and simple while others are exquisitely crafted and ornately painted. The drawers are usually lined with velvet and may have necklace hooks and/or a mirror inside the lid or on the back inside wall. Treasured for many years, wooden jewelry boxes become family heirlooms that are passed on through generations.

Examine Your Entire Collection

Lay all your jewelry out on a table and examine it. Is there a common theme or color? Is it all gold or silver? Do you have more necklaces, bracelets, earrings or rings? Your jewelry box should compliment your collection not clash with it. You don’t want the lining to clash with your jewelry. Make sure it goes with your primary colors and brings out the shine and shimmer of the pieces.

Give Your Jewelry Plenty of Room

Make sure that your jewelry box has enough room so that your pieces are not overlapping. Give each sufficient space so that you can choose a piece without having to sort through everything.

Consider Two Boxes Instead Of One

Separating your jewelry into two jewelry boxes is a good idea if you have, for example, an equal amount of gold and silver. Put the silver in one box, the gold in the other. If you have some casual jewelry and some dressy, separate than in a casual box and a dressier one; each box should be appropriate to the look, style, and size of the pieces.

Also consider if the person you are buying this box for likes to travel. We have several options available at just type in ”travel boxes” travel jewelry boxes in the search box on our site. You will see such items as jewelry rolls, men’s jewelry and watch cases, leather accordion style cases in beautiful colors, and the standard case with removable trays.
